Leather Care Guide for Beginners | 3 Steps to Avoid Pitfalls

Why does leather need regular care?
Leather is like our skin: it has pores and contains natural oils. Over time, when these oils are lost the leather can become stiff and crack. Regular care replenishes oils and keeps the leather supple.

Professional three-step care routine
Daily cleaning
Use a horsehair brush or a clean soft cloth to gently remove surface dust along the grain. This simple step prevents abrasive particles from wearing the leather surface.
Conditioning and oiling
Apply a small amount of leather-specific care oil (for example, mink oil) to a cloth and work it in with circular motions. It is recommended every 3–6 months; allow the leather to absorb the oil before use.
Protective storage
Store in a ventilated, cool place away from direct sunlight. In humid seasons many use desiccant packs, but do not place them directly inside leather items—keep a suitable distance to prevent mould. If leather gets wet, blot immediately and let it air-dry naturally.
Expert tips
Vegetable‑tanned leather develops a patina over time; frequent use is the best care. Natural oils from skin will gradually deepen the leather's luster.
