From self-taught to artisan

The story of HATO Leather began with the scent of leather on Tai Nan Street in Sham Shui Po.

At the time I lived in this old neighborhood rich in artisanal character, and the leather shop downstairs became my first teacher. From self-directed exploration on YouTube to frequent visits to the leather street to consult experienced artisans, I turned my passion for leather into gifts for friends and family.

This dedication did not arise by chance. I worked for many years in graphic arts, routinely using a utility knife, which honed my pursuit of absolute precision in angles and steady control of tools. That same insistence on detail is present in every HATO Leather piece.

HATO's origin

The brand name "HATO" comes from the Japanese word (はと), meaning "pigeon." The founding intention was simple and heartfelt: in this busy world, we hope to convey a sense of peace and calm.

Our initial creative inspiration came from a love of outdoor camping. At the time, there were few leather goods designed specifically for camping, which led me to ask: why not create dedicated, distinctive gear for people who love the outdoors? We insist on using high-quality Italian leather, drawn to its balanced suppleness and durability that can accompany its owner through every journey.
